Laser shock processing (LSP) is an innovative surface treatment technique with high peak power, short pulse, and cold hardening for strengthening metal materials. LSP is based on the application of a high intensity pulsed laser beam (I > 1 GW/cm(2); t < 50 ns) at the interface between the metallic target and the surrounding medium (a transparent confining material, normally water) forcing a sudden vaporization of the metallic surface into a high temperature and density plasma that immediately develops inducing a shock wave propagating into the material. The shock wave induces plastic deformation and a residual stress distribution in the target material. In this paper we study the increase of microhardness and surface roughness with the increase of laser pulse energy in 2024-T3 Al alloy. The influence of the thickness of the confining layer (water) on microhardness and surface roughness is also studied. In addition, the effect of LSP treatment with best conditions on wear behaviors of the alloy was investigated.

This study successfully synthesized high-performance photodetectors based on Ag-WO3 core-shell heterostructures using a simple and economical two-step pulsed laser ablation in water method and has investigated the electrical characteristics of the Ag@WO3 nanocomposite heterojunction. The Hall effect tests indicate that the synthesized Ag@WO3 exhibits n-type conduction with a Hall mobility of 1.25 × 103 cm2V-1S-1. Dark current-voltage properties indicated that the created heterojunctions displayed rectification capabilities, with the highest rectification factor of around 1.71 seen at a 5 V bias. A photodetector's responsivity reveals the existence of two response peaks, which are situated in the ultraviolet and visible region. The photodetector demonstrates a rapid response time of less than 100 ms. The detectivity values for wavelengths of 350 nm and 490 nm were 35 × 1013 Jones and 28 × 1013 Jones, respectively. The n-Ag-WO3/n-Si photodetector achieved a maximum EQE of 11.5% in the ultraviolet wavelength when subjected to 3 V and illuminated with 350 nm (26 mW/cm2) light. The devices demonstrate rapid switching behavior with a rise time of 0.32 s and a fall time of 0.33 s. The time-dependent light response of a photodetector under illumination at 26 mW/cm2 is seen at a bias of 3 V. The light exhibits a rise and decay duration of 15 s, while the photocurrent gain is measured at 9µA. The photocurrent of devices exhibited a positive correlation with the incoming light intensity, suggesting that the junction has the potential to function as a photo detector.

This study utilized faradaic and non-faradaic electrochemical impedance spectroscopy to detect alpha synuclein amyloid fibrils on gold interdigitated tetraelectrodes (AuIDTE), providing valuable insights into electrochemical reactions for clinical use. AuIDE was purchased, modified with zinc oxide for increased hydrophobicity. Functionalization was conducted with hexacyanidoferrate and carbonyldiimidazole. Faradaic electrochemical impedance spectroscopy has been extensively explored in clinical diagnostics and biomedical research, providing information on the performance and stability of electrochemical biosensors. This understanding can help develop more sensitive, selective, and reliable biosensing platforms for the detection of clinically relevant analytes like biomarkers, proteins, and nucleic acids. Non-faradaic electrochemical impedance spectroscopy measures the interfacial capacitance at the electrode-electrolyte interface, eliminating the need for redox-active species and simplifying experimental setups. It has practical implications in clinical settings, like real-time detection and monitoring of biomolecules and biomarkers by tracking changes in interfacial capacitance. The limit of detection (LOD) for normal alpha synuclein in faradaic mode is 2.39-fM, The LOD for aggregated alpha synuclein detection is 1.82-fM. The LOD for non-faradaic detection of normal alpha synuclein is 2.22-fM, and the LOD for nonfaradaic detection of aggregated alpha synuclein is 2.40-fM. The proposed EIS-based AuIDTEs sensor detects alpha synuclein amyloid fibrils and it is highly sensitive.

In the last few decays, the fiber-optic was employed in the field of sensing because of its benefits in contrast to other types of sensors such as small size, easy to fabricate, high response, and flexibility. In this study, unclad single mode fiber-optic sensor is proposed to operate at 650 nm wavelength. COMSOL Multiphysics 5.1 finite element method (FEM) is used to design the sensor and tested it theoretically. The middle portion of the fiber cladding is removed and replaced by gold nanoparticles (Au NPs) of 50 nm thickness. Analytic layer of 3 μm thickness was immersed in different liquids in range of refractive index (RI) from 1.000281 to 1.39. These liquids are NaCl Deionized (DI) water solution, sucrose-Deionized (DI) water solution, and glycerol solution Deionized (DI) water. It was found that the highest obtained sensitivity and resolution are for glycerol-DI water solution with value of 3157.98 (nm/RIU) and 3.16 × 10-5 (RIU), respectively. Furthermore, it is easy to fabricate and of low cost. In experiments, pulsed laser ablation (PLA) was used to prepare Au NPs. X-ray diffraction (XRD) shown that the peak of the intensity grew as the ablated energy increased as well as the structure crystallization. Transmission electron microscopy (TEM) revealed an average diameter of 30 nm at the three ablated energies, while X-ray spectroscopy (EDX) spectrum has indicated the presence of Au NPs in the prepared solution. The photoluminescence (PL) and ultraviolet-visible UV-Vis transmission were used to study the optical properties of the prepared Au NPs. An optical spectrum analyzer was used to obtain the sensor's output results. It has shown that best intensity was obtained for sucrose which confined with theoretical results.
