    This work investigates the extraction of cellulose nanocrystals (CNC) from bamboo fibre as an alternative approach to utilize the waste bamboo fibre. In this study, bamboo fibre was subjected to acid hydrolysis for efficient isolation of CNC from bamboo fibre. The extracted CNC's were morphologically, characterized via Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM), Transmission Electron Microscopy (TEM) and Atomic Force Microscopy (AFM). The energy Dispersive X-rays (EDX) provided the elemental composition of the prepared CNC's and X-ray diffractometer (XRD) exhibited their crystallinity. The physiochemical analysis was done via Fourier Transform Infrared (FTIR); and their thermal analysis was revealed by Thermogravimetric Analysis (TGA) and Differential scanning calorimetry (DSC). As from their morphological investigations, rod like structures of CNC's were observed under SEM analysis with higher carbon content as demonstrated by EDX, while needle shaped CNC's were observed from TEM and AFM studies. Acid hydrolysis for 45 min resulted into higher degree of crystallinity and higher yield of CNC's about 86.96% and 22% respectively. Owing to higher quality of CNC's obtained as a result of efficient and modified techniques, these can find potential usage in nanocomposites for biomedical and food packaging application.

    Objectives: The objective of this study was to review the significant differences of MMT outcomes related to drug use behavior, health status, and social behavioral functioning between genders.

    Materials and Methods: A search of publication was conducted in PubMed/MEDLINE, Embase, CINAHL, PsycINFO, and Scopus database. Two reviewers independently screened the titles, abstracts, and keyword use for the search. Inclusion of studies was based on randomized controlled trials (RCTs) or observational studies that report the difference of opioid addiction treatment outcomes between genders. Any conflict between the two reviewers was resolved through discussion and consensus. The systematic review followed the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Review and Meta-Analyses (PRISMA) guidelines and was registered in PROSPERO with a registration number CRD42019116261.

    Results: A total of 25 studies were evaluated as part of qualitative synthesis. The review resulted in three main themes, which are (1) improving well-being and methadone-related outcome (five subthemes), (2) impact on social and behavioral (four subthemes), and (3) illicit drug use pattern-related behavior (four subthemes).

    Conclusion: This review will highlight how men and women differ in methadone treatment outcomes for further application and improvement in the clinical setting.

    BACKGROUND: Smoking is a risk factor not only for the development of cancer and coronary heart disease but also for tuberculosis (TB). The aim of this study was to determine the prevalence of smoking in patients with TB, identify demographic and clinical characteristics associated with smoking and to evaluate TB treatment outcomes in the smokers.
    METHOD: A retrospective cohort study of patients with TB was conducted at Khyber Teaching Hospital, Peshawar, Pakistan. All patients with pulmonary and extrapulmonary TB and those coinfected with HIV, hepatitis or diabetes mellitus were included in the study. The patients were categorized into smokers and nonsmokers. Treatment outcomes were evaluated by smear testing at the end of the treatment.
    RESULTS: Of 472 enrolled subjects, 68 (14.4%) were smokers. The prevalence of smoking among male and female patients with TB was 11.8% and 2.5%, respectively. Univariate analysis indicated that the gender, age group and marital status of patients with TB were associated with smoking. The results indicated that patient gender (P = 0.05), age: 15 to 24 years (P = 0.05) and age >55 years (P = 0.004) were risk factors associated with smoking among TB patients. Of the 68 smokers with TB, the treatment outcomes among 54 patients (79.4%) were unsuccessful. The treatment outcomes was statistically significantly associated with smoking (odds ratio: 2.58, P = 0.004).
    CONCLUSIONS: Findings from the current study proved smoking to be one of the main factors associated with the occurrence of TB and significantly reducing the outcomes of TB therapy.

    We explore the local dynamics, flip bifurcation, chaos control and existence of periodic point of the predator-prey model with Allee effect on the prey population in the interior of $\mathbb{R}^*{_+^2}$. Nu-merical simulations not only exhibit our results with the theoretical analysis but also show the complex dynamical behaviors, such as the period-2, 8, 11, 17, 20 and 22 orbits. Further, maximum Lyapunov exponents as well as fractal dimensions are also computed numerically to show the presence of chaotic behavior in the model under consideration.

    Aluminum (Al3+) toxicity is one of the factors limiting crop production in acidic soils. Identifying quantitative trait loci (QTLs)/genes for tolerance to Al3+ toxicity at seed germination can aid the development of new tolerant cultivars. The segregating population derived from Pak Basmati (Indica) × Pokkali (Indica) was used for mapping QTLs linked with tolerance to Al3+ toxicity ranging from 0 to 20 mM at pH 4 ± 0.2 at germination. The favorable alleles for all new QTLs were analyzed based on germination traits, i.e., final germination percentage (FG%), germination energy (GE), germination speed (GS), germination index (GI), mean germination time (MGT), germination value (GV), germination velocity (GVe), peak value of germination (GPV), and germination capacity (GC), and growth traits, such as root length (RL), shoot length (SL), total dry biomass (TDB) and germination vigor index (GVI). The phenotypic evolution showed transgressive variations. For genome-wide mapping, 90 polymorphic SSRs with 4 gene-specific markers and Win QTL Cart were used for QTL analysis. In all, 35 QTLs for germination and 11 QTLs for seedling growth were detected in distinct chromosomal regions by composite interval mapping (CIM), and multiple interval mapping (MIM) confirmed the pleiotropy at region RM128 on chromosome 1. Based on our genetic mapping studies, the genes/QTLs underlying tolerance to Al3+ toxicity could differ for both the germination and seedling stages in segregated populations. The QTLs identified in this study could be a source of new alleles for improving tolerance to Al3+ toxicity in rice.

    Mitotic nuclei estimation in breast tumour samples has a prognostic significance in analysing tumour aggressiveness and grading system. The automated assessment of mitotic nuclei is challenging because of their high similarity with non-mitotic nuclei and heteromorphic appearance. In this work, we have proposed a new Deep Convolutional Neural Network (CNN) based Heterogeneous Ensemble technique "DHE-Mit-Classifier" for analysis of mitotic nuclei in breast histopathology images. The proposed technique in the first step detects candidate mitotic patches from the histopathological biopsy regions, whereas, in the second step, these patches are classified into mitotic and non-mitotic nuclei using the proposed DHE-Mit-Classifier. For the development of a heterogeneous ensemble, five different deep CNNs are designed and used as base-classifiers. These deep CNNs have varying architectural designs to capture the structural, textural, and morphological properties of the mitotic nuclei. The developed base-classifiers exploit different ideas, including (i) region homogeneity and feature invariance, (ii) asymmetric split-transform-merge, (iii) dilated convolution based multi-scale transformation, (iv) spatial and channel attention, and (v) residual learning. Multi-layer-perceptron is used as a meta-classifier to develop a robust and accurate classifier for providing the final decision. The performance of the proposed ensemble "DHE-Mit-Classifier" is evaluated against state-of-the-art CNNs. The performance evaluation on the test set suggests the superiority of the proposed ensemble with an F-score (0.77), recall (0.71), precision (0.83), and area under the precision-recall curve (0.80). The good generalisation of the proposed ensemble with a considerably high F-score and precision suggests its potential use in the development of an assistance tool for pathologists.

    Ischemic stroke is due to either local thrombus formation or emboli that occlude a cerebral artery, together with chronic kidney disease represent major mortality and morbidity.Here we present a case of 53 years old Malay man, admitted to a hospital in Malaysia complaining of sudden on set of weakness on right sided upper and lower limb associated with slurred speech. Patient was also suffering from uncontrolled hypertension, hyperlipidemia, chronic kidney disease stage 4, and diabetes mellitus (uncontrolled). He was diagnosed with acute ischemic stroke with cranial nerve 7 palsy (with right hemiparesis), acute on chronic kidney disease precipitated by dehydration and ACE inhibitor, and hyperkalemia. Patients with ischemic disease and chronic kidney disaese require constant monitering and careful selected pharmacotherapy. Patient was placed under observation and was prescribed multiple pharamacotherpay to stabalise detoriating condition.

    Washingtonia is a desert plant with great sustainability and renewability in nature and is abundantly cultivated across global urban regions. Its fibre biomass comprises cellulose as the major structural part, and this is why it can be potentially utilized as an alternative biomaterial for manufacturing microcrystalline cellulose (MCC) products that can be widely applied in industrial fields. In the present study, NaOH-treated Washingtonia fibre (WAKL), NaClO2-treated Washingtonia fibre (WBLH), and Washingtonia microcrystalline cellulose (WMCC) were extracted through combined treatments of alkalization, bleaching, and acidic hydrolysis, respectively. The obtained chemically treated fibre samples were subjected to characterization to investigate their morphology, physico-chemistry, and thermal stability. In a morphological examination, the large bunch WAKL fibre reduced into small size WMCC fibrils, evidencing that the lignin and hemicellulose components were greatly eliminated through chemical dissolution. The elemental composition revealed that almost all impurities of anions and cations had been removed, particularly for the WMCC sample, showing its high purity of cellulose content. Additionally, the WMCC sample could attain at 25% yield, giving it the advantage for feasible economic production. Furthermore, the physicochemical analysis, Fourier Transform Infrared-ray (FTIR), indicated the presence of a crystalline cellulose region within the WMCC structure, which had promoted it with high crystallinity of 72.6% as examined by X-ray diffraction (XRD). As for thermal analysis, WMCC showed greater thermal stability comparing to WAKL and WBLC samples at high temperature. Therefore, Washingtonia fibre can be a reliable biosubstituent to replace other plant material for MCC production in the future.

    Colon-specific drug delivery has found important applications in the wide array of diseases affecting the lower intestinal tract. Recent developments and advancements in the polymer-based colonic delivery ensure targeted therapeutics with reduced systemic adverse effects. Latest progress in the understanding of polymer science has decorated a polymer-based formulation with a number of special features, which may prove effective in the localized drug targeting at specific sites of the intestine. Upon oral administration, polymeric vehicles or polymer-coated formulations serve to protect the drug from premature release and degradation in the upper gastrointestinal tract. Moreover, it also facilitates the selective accumulation and controlled release of the drug at inflamed sites of the colon. This review article focuses on a wide coverage of major polymers, their modifications, pros and cons, mechanism of colon targeting and applications as a vehicle system for colonic drug delivery, with a special emphasis on the inflammatory bowel disease.

    Aim: To evaluate doctors' knowledge, attitude, and practices and predictors of adherence to Malaysian hypertension guidelines (CPG 2008).
    Methods: Twenty-six doctors involved in hypertension management at Penang General Hospital were enrolled in a cross-sectional study. Doctors' knowledge and attitudes towards guidelines were evaluated through a self-administered questionnaire. Their practices were evaluated by noting their prescriptions written to 520 established hypertensive outpatients (20 prescriptions/doctor). SPSS 17 was used for data analysis.
    Results: Nineteen doctors (73.07%) had adequate knowledge of guidelines. Specialists and consultants had significantly better knowledge about guidelines' recommendations. Doctors were positive towards guidelines with mean attitude score of 23.15 ± 1.34 points on a 30-point scale. The median number of guidelines compliant prescriptions was 13 (range 5-20). Statistically significant correlation (rs = 0.635, P < 0.001) was observed between doctors' knowledge and practice scores. A total of 349 (67.1%) prescriptions written were guidelines compliant. In multivariate analysis hypertension clinic (OR = 0.398, P = 0.008), left ventricular hypertrophy (OR = 0.091, P = 0.001) and heart failure (OR = 1.923, P = 0.039) were significantly associated with guidelines adherence.
    Conclusion: Doctors' knowledge of guidelines is reflected in their practice. The gap between guidelines recommendations and practice was seen in the pharmacotherapy of uncomplicated hypertension and hypertension with left ventricular hypertrophy, renal disease, and diabetes mellitus.

    A highly efficient protocol for regeneration of Carica papaya L. cv. Eksotika somatic embryos from immature zygotic embryos was developed. This study was designed to overcome the obstacles in regeneration of somatic embryos from immature zygotic embryos of "Eksotika", especially problems associated with formation of better root quality and callus formation at the base of somatic embryos. Somatic embryos were generated by incubation of immature zygotic embryos in half-strength salt Murashige and Skoog (MS) medium with full-strength vitamins supplemented with 7.5 mg L-1 2,4-D, 100 mg L-1 L-glutamine, 50 mg L-1myo-inositol, 45 mg L-1 adenine sulphate, 0.33% gelrite, and 6% sucrose, followed by transfer to maturation medium consisting of ½ MS medium supplemented with 5 mg L-1 phloroglucinol, 100 mg L-1 L-glutamine, 100 mg L-1myo-inositol, 68 mg L-1 adenine sulphate, 0.38% gelrite, and 3% sucrose. After that, well-formed somatic embryos were transferred to MS medium containing 3% sucrose and 0.8% agar for shoot production. The embryos were elongated in MS medium supplemented with 1 mg L-1 gibberellic acid, 0.5 mg L-1 indole-3-butyric acid, 100 mg L-1myo-inositol, and 3.76 mg L-1 riboflavin. Root regeneration was achieved on MS medium containing 7.9 mg L-1 phloroglucinol and supported with vermiculite after 4 days of cultivation on ½ MS medium with 2 mg L-1 indole-3-butyric acid. After the rooting phase, in vitro plantlets were acclimatized in peat moss soil.

    This study examined whether productive coping styles and social support were significant mediators of the relationship between academic stress and suicidal ideation. The survey was performed on a sample of 300 Malaysian and 300 Indian college students. The participants completed psychological assessments of productive coping styles, social support, academic stress, and suicidal ideation. Significant cultural and demographic differences emerged. Indian students reported higher suicidal ideation and academic stress than did Malaysian students, and Malaysian students received more social support and had better problem-solving coping styles than did Indian students. Overall, students who were male, non-religious, and from low-income families reported more academic stress and more suicidal ideation. Productive coping styles and overall social support strongly affected the relationship between academic stress and suicidal ideation among both countries' participants.

    The aim of the study was to successfully design, formulate and evaluate self-nanoemulsifying drug delivery system (SNEDDS) of poorly aqueous soluble drug viz. flurbiprofen using long (LCT), medium (MCT) and short chain triglycerides (SCT). The SNEDDS are thermodynamically stable lipid based drug delivery systems which consist of mixture of oil, surfactant and co-surfactant. Upon aqueous dilution, this mixture produces nano-emulsion spontaneously on slight agitation. The excipients intended to be used were screened for their potential to dissolve the drug and to form clear dispersion upon aqueous dilution. Labrafil M 1944 CS, capryol-90 and triacetin were selected as long, medium and short chain triglycerides, respectively, as lipids while tween-80 and polyethylene glycol-400 (PEG-400)/ethanol (3:1 ratio) were selected as surfactant and co-surfactant, respectively. The excipients were studied at every possible combination ratios using pseudo-ternary diagram. The LCT, MCT and SCT-SNEDDS were optimized using thermodynamic studies, percentage transmittance value, viscosity, refractive index (RI), electrical conductivity, globule size analysis and in-vitro drug release studies. The drug release profiles of optimized SNEDDS were then compared with market product at different pH mediums. The LCT-SNEDDS was considered to be superior for enhancement of the drug bioavailability when compared with other SNEDDS formulations and market product.

    Exploring and monitoring the underwater world using underwater sensors is drawing a lot of attention these days. In this field cooperation between acoustic sensor nodes has been a critical problem due to the challenging features such as acoustic channel failure (sound signal), long propagation delay of acoustic signal, limited bandwidth and loss of connectivity. There are several proposed methods to improve cooperation between the nodes by incorporating information/game theory in the node's cooperation. However, there is a need to classify the existing works and demonstrate their performance in addressing the cooperation issue. In this paper, we have conducted a review to investigate various factors affecting cooperation in underwater acoustic sensor networks. We study various cooperation techniques used for underwater acoustic sensor networks from different perspectives, with a concentration on communication reliability, energy consumption, and security and present a taxonomy for underwater cooperation. Moreover, we further review how the game theory can be applied to make the nodes cooperate with each other. We further analyze different cooperative game methods, where their performance on different metrics is compared. Finally, open issues and future research direction in underwater acoustic sensor networks are highlighted.

    This paper attempts to evaluate the impact of massive infectious and contagious diseases and its final impact on the economic performance anywhere and anytime. We are considering to evaluate the case of Wuhan, China. We are taking in consideration the case of COVID-19 to be evaluated under a domestic, national, and international level impact. In this paper, we also propose a new simulator to evaluate the impact of massive infections and contagious diseases on the economic performance subsequently. This simulator is entitled "The Impact of Pandemics on the Economic Performance Simulator (IPEP-Simulator)" Hence, this simulator tries to show a macro and micro analysis with different possible scenarios simultaneously. Finally, the IPEP-Simulator was applied to the case of Wuhan-China respectively.

    In the current study, we used molecular screening and simulation approaches to target I7L protease from monkeypox virus (mpox) from the Traditional Chinese Medicines (TCM) database. Using molecular screening, only four hits TCM27763, TCM33057, TCM34450 and TCM31564 demonstrated better pharmacological potential than TTP6171 (control). Binding of these molecules targeted Trp168, Asn171, Arg196, Cys237, Ser240, Trp242, Glu325, Ser326, and Cys328 residues and may affect the function of I7L protease in in vitro assay. Moreover, molecular simulation revealed stable dynamics, tighter structural packing and less flexible behaviour for all the complexes. We further reported that the average hydrogen bonds in TCM27763, TCM33057, TCM34450 and TCM31564I7L complexes remained higher than the control drug. Finally, the BF energy results revealed -62.60 ± 0.65 for the controlI7L complex, for the TCM27763I7L complex -71.92 ± 0.70 kcal/mol, for the TCM33057I7L complex the BF energy was -70.94 ± 0.70 kcal/mol, for the TCM34450I7L the BF energy was -69.94 ± 0.85 kcal/mol while for the TCM31564I7L complex the BF energy was calculated to be -69.16 ± 0.80 kcal/mol. Although, we used stateoftheart computational methods, these are theoretical insights that need further experimental validation.

    In this paper, a novel, effective meta-heuristic, population-based Hybrid Firefly Particle Swarm Optimization (HFPSO) algorithm is applied to solve different non-linear and convex optimal power flow (OPF) problems. The HFPSO algorithm is a hybridization of the Firefly Optimization (FFO) and the Particle Swarm Optimization (PSO) technique, to enhance the exploration, exploitation strategies, and to speed up the convergence rate. In this work, five objective functions of OPF problems are studied to prove the strength of the proposed method: total generation cost minimization, voltage profile improvement, voltage stability enhancement, the transmission lines active power loss reductions, and the transmission lines reactive power loss reductions. The particular fitness function is chosen as a single objective based on control parameters. The proposed HFPSO technique is coded using MATLAB software and its effectiveness is tested on the standard IEEE 30-bus test system. The obtained results of the proposed algorithm are compared to simulated results of the original Particle Swarm Optimization (PSO) method and the present state-of-the-art optimization techniques. The comparison of optimum solutions reveals that the recommended method can generate optimum, feasible, global solutions with fast convergence and can also deal with the challenges and complexities of various OPF problems.
