Introduction: Oxidative damage is an important factor contributing to ageing and many degenerative dis- eases. It can be detected by the DNA base damage, which is formation of 8-oxo-7,8-dihydro-2’deoxygua- nosine (8-oxodG). The 8-oxodG is an important indicator of oxidative stress and has been competent- ly specified as a recognized initiator of the carcinogenic process and premutagenic injury in mammalian cells. Aims: In this preliminary study, we investigated the possible association of oxidative DNA damage in hepa- tocellular carcinoma (HCC) patients in comparison with Malaysian healthy controls taking into account the dif- ferent races and genders in both groups. Method: DNA of peripheral white blood cells was isolated from 91 HCC patients and 304 controls. The level of oxidative DNA damage was determined by ELISA procedure. Results: Quantitative measurement of 8-oxodG was higher in HCC patients at mean value of 3.30 ± 2.32 ng/ml. In controls, the average value is 1.57 ± 1.92 ng/ml. Comparison between gender showed that there was a significant difference observed in the level of 8-oxodG between male and female in controls, where p = 0.003. The level of 8-oxodG was higher in male than in female controls. There was a significant difference in the average value of 8-ox- odG level between the controls and HCC patients where p

In this paper work, three-dimensional terrain models were reconstructed from twodimensional contour lines. Firstly, spatial curves were generated from contour lines using
parameterized cubic B-spline curve interpolation. Then surfaces were constructed by using
B-spline ruled surface. In the reconstruction process, some issues such as keyholes and
branching may arise. Therefore, we propose a method that handles the branching object to
construct a bilinear patch by following the proposed data point’s extraction algorithm. We
also solved keyholes issues by retaining the same knot vector condition on B-spline ruled
surface. Results are also demonstrated for models with branching and without branching.

The process in recruitment and selection of new workers give an impact on the quality of human resource. This process is the main factor that influences the success of an organization. Nevertheless, there is one practice that could influence the process of recruitment and selection of new worker. This is the practice of nepotism. The practice of nepotism is an issue frequently debated because it is one of the dominant factor that influences the appraisal of an organization. This practice has to be abolished in order for our country to develop.

Background: Hospital medicine is characterized as a multifaceted team-based activity with a necessity for a high level of accuracy, timely, and reliable communication. Effective communication among healthcare providers is the key to successful collaboration within the healthcare system. Effective communication can improve patient safety, job satisfaction, and reduce burn out syndrome among nurses. The purpose of the study was to identify the factors contributing to the competency gap between and doctors in four private hospitals in Malaysia. Method: The study used a descriptive qualitative design to elicit the experience of 15 doctors from three private hospitals. A semi-structured interview was conducted to collect the data. The data were analyzed using Colaizzi's method for thematic data analysis. Results: The findings of the study suggested three main categories as the factors contributing to the communication gap among nurses and doctors as perceived by specialist doctors. The three categories include nurses training attributes, graduate nurse attributes, and work environment attributes. The nurses training attributes include entry requirements for student's recruitment into the nursing program, undergraduate training process, and assessment of student nurses. The graduate nurse's attributes had nine elements. The elements include a post-registration thirst for knowledge, medical English knowledge, self-confidence, stress management skills, critical thinking, and clinical judgment skills, perceived power on the authority of doctors, passion to work, time management skills as well as stress and personal factors of nurses. The working environment attributes included workload of nurses, teamwork among nurses Preceptorship, and appreciation of nurses by the organization. The informants also suggested measures to overcome the competency gaps among nurses. Conclusion: In conclusion, the nurse's communication competency is a vital factor in determining patient safety and quality of care. The quality of nursing care has a significant impact on the image of any health care organization. Therefore, it is crucial to identify the factors contributing to poor communication among nurses and doctors and to initiate interventions to fill the communication gap.

Ādāb al-Baḥth wa al-Munāẓarah arose as a science in the Islamic world at the end of the 7th/13th century. It is a creative synthesis of logic and juridical dialectics, and was known during the classical period as jadal (dialectic), and in jurisprudence as ʿilm alkhilāf. The aim of a munāẓarah is to arrive at the truth by the means of a regulated disputation, in which a proposition and its proof can be cross-examined by the disputants. This article introduces Risālah Waladiyyah by Sāçaḳlīzāde (d. 1737/42), a manual of Ādāb al-Baḥth wa al-Munāẓarah for beginners.

Factory and Machinery Act (Noise Exposure) Regulation 1989 (FMA [Noise] 1989) has been implemented in Malaysia for nearly 30 years, but noise-induced hearing loss (NIHL) cases is still rising. Fault tree analysis is a top-down approach to analyzing incidences of 'failures', starting with establishing the single top event that will eventually cause NIHL, followed by identification of the contributing factors to the top event which are the immediate or basic events. Through its visual, structural and deductive approach; FTA is able to depict the temporal sequence of events and their interactions in a formal and logical hierarchy. Materials and Methods: Employees with permanent standard threshold shifts (PSTS) underwent further assessment confirming the presence of NIHL. A single common fault tree was constructed based on six cases of PSTS. The top event is the PSTS. Intermediate and basic events were identified and mapped with relevance to the provisions in the FMA (noise) 1989 indicating how failed control measures have resulted in the PSTS cases. Results: The constructed fault tree with its branches illustrated how breach or non-compliance of FMA (Noise) 1989 resulted in the eventual top event (NIHL). Conclusion: FTA provides a standardized perspective of errors within the system in preventing NIHL.

Objective: The objective of the study is to compare insight in Schizophrenia, bipolar affective disorder with psychosis and major depressive disorder with psychosis. Also to ascertain if impaired insight is associated with poorer psychosocial function. Method: 90 consecutively'admitted patients who were diagnosed with Schizophrenia, bipolar affective disorder with psychosis and major depressive disorder with psychosis were administered the scale to assess unawareness to mental illness to measure insight, the global assessment of function to measure psychosocial function and the brief psychiatric rating scale to measure psychosis.

Results: Schizophrenia was found to be associated wit h the poorest insight compared to the affective disorders. Major depression with psychosis was found to be associated with better insight than bipolar affective disorder. Results being significant in both cases. Also it was noted that there was a negative correlation between insight and psychosocial function.

Conclusion: We can conclude that Schizophrenics have the poorest insight followed by bipolar affective disorder with psychosis and then major depressive disorder with psychosis. We also infer that Schizophrenics have the poorest psychosocial function followed by bipolar affective disorder with psychosis and then major depressive disorder patients with psychosis. Also impaired insight is associated with impaired function.
